Eben-Eser provides flexible, personalized care for seniors. With senior-friendly housing, outpatient care, day care and inpatient care, they offer an allround support to all of their residents. In addition to joint fishing trips, spring crafts and even exciting quiz shows, the seniors can now also discover the worldwide virtual routes with Bike Labyrinth.
To find out even more about the Eben-Eser residential and nursing home as well as their experiences with their new Bike Labyrinth, we decided to visit them personally. Our first impression in Warsingsfehn was more than caring and appreciative. We were instantly greeted by an employee of the residential and nursing home saying: "We are thrilled with Bike Labyrinth." After an interesting conversation, we were given a warm tour of the christian care facility. During the tour, we met many friendly faces and heard lovely stories that really reflected the community and family charisma of this integrated care center.
Bike Labyrinth found the perfect spot right in the entrance area of the residential and nursing home in Warsingsfehn. Surrounded by chairs and sofas, there's plenty of space for adventurous cycling tours around the world. The cozy atmosphere invites residents and visitors to hang out together and reminisce. For the celebration of the virtual routes, seniors, relatives, and staff all came together. "We threw a real party”, Dirk Wennmann, the manager in Warsingsfehn, reports. “With waffles, non-alcoholic cocktails and a ton of balloons, we welcomed Bike Labyrinth in a cheerful and curious mood.” The virtual bike routes transform the entrance area into a place of encounter and joy, where past memories are shared and new journeys are undertaken.
“Since I started cycling regularly with Bike Labyrinth, walking is a lot easier.”
Right from the start, Bike Labyrinth was used so much that the staff and the manager Dirk were amazed. "It feels like Bike Labyrinth has always been here," said Irmela Oltrop, an employee in Warsingsfehn. In just 3 months, the residents of the Eben-Eser care center spent an incredible 122 hours on the bike and traveled through nine different countries. The most popular routes, however, are always through Germany. No matter if in the north or in the south - the German cities and routes are especially popular with the residents in Warsingsfehn.
The virtual routes can be discovered both independently and within a care setting at Eben-Eser. For this, the residents gather around Bike Labyrinth and choose a route together. The seniors take turns riding one by one and tell each other stories about places they recognize in the virtual routes. Irmela believes that Bike Labyrinth’s greatest strength lies not only in the beautiful memories shared during the rides: “Bike Labyrinth means mutual motivation and activation here in Warsingsfehn.” "Show me where you're going" or "I didn't even see that you were already cycling - I'll join you now," seniors are discussing in the entrance. The residents are therefore not only motivated by the staff - on the contrary - Many seniors encourage each other to discover the world by bike.
Bike Labyrinth isn't just a new activity in Warsingsfehn, it's an example of their community strength. They raised a remarkable 8,000 Euros in just 14 days to fund Bike Labyrinth through donations from residents, family, and staff. "There's real heart behind this technology," says Dirk, speaking about the emotional significance of Bike Labyrinth. It's more than just a system - especially in Warsingsfehn, the virtual cycling routes symbolize community, motivation and the chance to have new experiences, even in old age. Remembering shared experiences and the joy of movement make Bike Labyrinth a permanent part of life at the Eben-Eser residential and nursing home in Warsingsfehn.
