Bike Labyrinth is celebrating its birthday! And no, it's not a joke: we really did turn 15 today. 15 years ago, Ella and Job decided that the 1st of April was the perfect day to register their company. Why? They honestly can't remember.

Luckily, they do remember plenty of other stories and decisions from along the way. We thought our birthday was the perfect excuse to take a good look back. Co-founders Ella and Job take you on a trip down memory lane and share how they turned Fietslabyrint from a student project into a care product that's used all over the world.

Bike Labyrinth started out as a student project, though it didn't go entirely smoothly. While Ella and Job were convinced they had come up with a brilliant concept, their lecturers saw things a little differently. They finished the project with a 7 out of 10, but a physiotherapist who happened to be passing by thought it deserved at least a 10.

She thought the system would be wonderful for her patients, so they could finally see Leiden again. With that in mind, Ella and Job started a pilot at her care facility.

“People in healthcare have such big hearts. I can't think of anything more rewarding than building a great product for them.”

Ella Keijzer, CEO & Co-founder Bike Labyrinth

Once the pilot was up and running, new routes needed to be filmed. The very first route on Bike Labyrinth suffered from pretty shaky footage. After endless experimenting, Ella and Job found the solution: the GoPro 1. For its time (15 years ago), it delivered surprisingly stable footage.

With this new setup, they were able to travel across the country and film as many locations in the Netherlands as possible, and eventually beyond. To this day, that's what keeps our residents cycling with a smile.

These stories have also been shared by Ella and Job in the form of a podcast. They recorded it in their native language, Dutch, but you're welcome to have a listen and turn on the subtitles.
