Dutch hospital motivates people to exercise during their hospitalization
Physical and cognitive activity is very important for hospital patients and older patients in particular. One week in bed often means a muscle mass reduction of several kilos. Recovery of this muscle mass takes a long time, and many do not fully recover.
To motivate patients to exercise during their hospitalization, the Dutch hospital Gelderse Vallei in Ede has purchased two Bike Labyrinth systems for the departments of geriatric medicine and dialysis. Cycling keeps the patients physically active while the interactive bike tours on screen trigger memories and stimulate conversation.
