Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and is situated on the island of Java. Jakarta has about 30 million citizens and has changed names several times. Untill 1942 it was called Batavia, when the Dutch East Indies were taken over by the Japanese armed forces.
You can choose between two routes. One is through the old Batavia and the other route is via the Monas at the Kingsplaza.
You can cycle along Batavia's former city hall, which is now the Jakarta Historic Museum. But you can also choose to go through the colonial city center with the former VOC harbor.
This route brings you along the Monas (Monumen Nasional) which is one of the most well known buildings on Jakarta that symbolizes Indonesia's battle for independance.
