Neuschwanstein Castle

Arguably the most famous castle in the world, and yet it never fails to impress. Neuschwanstein stands on a rocky spur of the Bavarian Alps, high above the valley, and looks more like the pages of a fairy tale than reality. King Ludwig II commissioned it in the nineteenth century as a private retreat and source of inspiration, but he barely lived there. After his death in 1886, the castle was opened to the public and has since attracted more than sixty million visitors. It also served as the inspiration for the Disney castle, though that is something the Germans would rather not mention. While cycling along the foot of the castle, you can see how the building blends into the mountain landscape around it, with forests, lakes, and distant peaks as the backdrop.

Lichtenstein Castle

Less famous than Neuschwanstein, but no less impressive. Lichtenstein Castle sits on a narrow rocky promontory in the Swabian Alps, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, and seems to float above the dense forest below. The current castle dates from the nineteenth century and was built on the orders of Count Wilhelm von Württemberg, who was so fond of the romantic novel "Lichtenstein" by Wilhelm Hauff that he named the castle after it. Unlike many other castles, Lichtenstein remains in the private ownership of the House of Württemberg. During the virtual route, you ride through a hilly landscape that occasionally opens up to sweeping views, with the castle as the focal point in the background. A somewhat quieter route, but with a character entirely its own.

Downloading routes

Haven’t downloaded a route before? We’ll walk you through it. Go to your Bike Labyrinth and make sure you have a mouse connected. Go to Settings by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen. Make sure you have the latest version of Bike Labyrinth before you start downloading new routes. You can find your current version on the bottom right. Don’t have version 5.8.2? Update by clicking on Update. On this page you can also check if you are connected to the internet. Still offline? Connect Bike Labyrinth to the internet first. Once your Bike Labyrinth is online you can click on the button Check for update. If an update is needed you can now click on Install update. Now you can download new routes without a worry.

Continue downloading routes by returning to Settings. Next, click on Downloads. If your Bike Labyrinth is online you will see an overview of routes that are available for download. Need a bit more help? Check our instruction video with subs here.
